4 Indicators that It is Time to Repair Your Roof

Blog

The roof is a fundamental part of the entire home's structure. A functional roof should cover your house and protect the interiors from water, dust and other damages. It should also protect the building foundation from water damage when it rains. A quality roof should have an accompanying gutter system that helps collect the rainwater and lead it away from the house and into an underground drainage system. However, you should always check the state of your roof for damages. Call in a professional for roof repairs as soon as you notice these signs of roof damage.

When the Shingles Have Damage

If you have curled, cracked or missing shingles, then you need roof repairs. These are typical indicators that the shingles are almost coming to the end of their useful lifespan and need professional repair or replacement. Often, shingles curl when your attic has poor ventilation. Therefore, the best way to handle such a problem is by first checking the attic condition. Also, consider fixing the inner structure of the roof before replacing the shingles.

When You See Shingle Granules in the Gutters

Another indication that your shingles are damaged and need repairs is the presence of shingle granules in the gutters. You might also see them in the water that runs off on the side of your house. New and excellent quality gutters might shed a little when installed. However, the initial problem goes away until the shingles age and wear out. The shedding in old shingles creates a massive problem because water might start leaking into the home. Consider repairing or replacing your roof once you notice deposits of what seems like coarse black sand in your gutters.

When the Paint Starts Blistering and Peeling

The other indicator that your gutters have problems and need fixing is when your exterior paint starts blistering. Blisters are an indication of water damage. Typically, when the roof gets old and starts leaking, the water ends up on the wall. It might damage the wall, ceiling and siding. Timely roof repairs will minimise the water damage.

When the Ceilings Have Stains

Ceiling stains are an obvious indication that your roof is leaking. Ceiling damage might also show up in mould stains that spread throughout the ceiling and walls. Repairing the roofing eliminates further ceiling damage.

Hire a competent roofing contractor to assess the condition of your roof and determine whether you should repair or replace it. With their help, you restore energy efficiency, beauty and safety to your home.

Ryan's New Roofing Blog

Hello, my name is Ryan and this is my blog. I don't work in the roofing industry but I recently had to spend a week on the roof of my home trying to fix it up. I am pretty good at DIY, but in the end, I had to call in a roofing contractor to help me out. I decided to replace the entire roof and that wasn't a job I was going to take on my own. I have learnt a lot during the past few weeks and I hope to use this blog to pass on some of my knowledge.
